Reflections / Jimena Carrasca Madarriaga and Arthur Arruda Leal Ferreira

Reflections / Julia Alejandra Morales y Santiago Martinez Medina

title ¿What can dead bodies teach to the living? In this entry the authors build on their ethnographic works to reflect on this topic. They also put forward possible lessons from the amphitheatre and anatomy classes in Colombia.

title "Revisiting rights restitution and the narratives of peace from STS may also consist of interrogating the technical objects and expert discourses that make possible the promotion of those narratives" / "Una relectura desde los ESCT de la restitución de derechos y las narrativas de paz consiste también en problematizar aquellos objetos técnicos y discursos expertos que precisamente hacen posible promover dichas narrativas"

title Based on the work of six researchers, this text suggests that the field of social studies of science and technology (STS) can contribute to exploring the relationship between science and the Colombian armed conflict, investigating the kind of scientific knowledge that has been produced in the context of the war, and thinking about the type of science that needs to take place in order to build a peaceful and equal society

Report-backs / Yuri Jack Gómez-Morales

title This field of STS is not new in Colombia; starting at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in the early 1990s the number of practitioners has increased in recent years in several epicentres across the nation. Colombian practitioners regularly attend international conferences abroad such as the 4S, EASST, and ESOCITE conferences, the CYTED meetings, the summer schools for postgraduates, and the RICyT congress. Paradoxically, there are few local opportunities for extending academic and research contacts among practitioners and schools. The goal of the First National STS Workshop was precisely tackling this paradox by putting together colleagues from all around the country in Bogotá in April 2015. (Entry in Spanish and English)
