Leigh was my friend, a mentor, and a fellow former president of 4S. Leigh's life and work cast a bright light that will continue to guide those of us who knew and loved her and clarify things for those who did not know her personally and who come to life too late to have met this extraordinary exemplar of what a life and a life's work can be. Condolences to Geoff and all who knew and loved and worked with L*, Sal

Such shockingly sad news. Her work has influenced me and no doubt many, many others. My sincere condolences to Susan's family and friends.

When the news about the passing of Leigh Star arrived among STS colleagues in Italy, suddenly a sincere and incredulous exchange of messages went through the Peninsula. All of us were very touched and very sorry and STS Italia, our association, prayed me to offer our’s condolences to Geof Bowker in this space. I do that sad duty from the bottom of my hearth.

Leigh Star has been an outstanding scholar in STS and represented also all the smart, transliminary, nice and convergent of our common enterprise (whilst in different mises-en-contexte). But for us, Italian STS scholars, Leigh Star has been much more. She has been a big friend and a generous supporter. She participated in 2006 (among other colleagues) at our I National Conference of STS Italia in Cagliari, Sardinia, as a keynote speaker, with a wonderful and fascinating speech. A year later she came back in Cagliari as a visiting professor and at that moment we set up a National Laboratory on grounded theory and a Roundtable composed by many colleagues working on methodology nationwide. Either young scholars and colleagues were profoundly impressed by her high level in scientific, methodological but also human dimensions.
