Thinking with Catalyst

Visperas, Cristina, University of California, San Diego

Co-Authors:

Monika Sengul-Jones, University of California, San Diego

Our exhibit presents two examples of situated infrastructures for the making and doing of feminist STS: a scholarly web platform and an academic workshop space. Catalyst: Feminism, Theory, Technoscience is an open-source, peer-reviewed journal that publishes theory-forward STS work and theory-practice collaboration borrowing from postcolonialism, queer theory, critical race theory, disability studies, and other approaches.

Catalyst is currently housed at the Catalyst Lab in the University of California, San Diego, a workspace that hosts feminist STS seminars and talks, supports development of documentary media strategies, and brings together scholars in STS, visual arts, and engineering through collaborative sci-art projects that reflect in real space the kinds of interdisciplinary dialogues and creative research that Catalyst supports.

4S participants are invited to engage with examples of Catalyst work through objects, images, and interactive platforms presented at the session.
