The Society for Social Studies of Science is committed to providing an important intellectual value--the communication of ideas--at a low membership rate. For 25 years, this has been accomplished through publications and meetings. Scholarly interchange should be both accessible and inexpensive. 4S has two primary publications, the journal, Science, Technology, & Human Values, which is provided as a benefit of membership, and the open access online journal, Engaging Science, Technology and Society. In addition we publish comprehensive overviews of the field. The recent Handbook is now available.
The Handbook of Science and Technology Studies provides a comprehensive and authoritative overview of the field, reviewing current research and major theoretical and methodological approaches and analyzing emergent issues in a form that is accessible to new and established scholars from a range of disciplines.
The journal is an international, multidisciplinary publication containing research and commentary on the dynamics of science and technology, including their relationship to politics, society, and culture. As the official journal of the Society for Social Studies of Science, Science, Technology & Human Values exists to foster the development of the field of science and technology studies, no matter the perspective of the authors. All submissions are peer reviewed.
Engaging Science, Technology and Society is the open access journal of the Society for the Social Studies of Science. A double-blind peer review journal, ESTS seeks to be a site for experimentation for engaged and accessible scholarship on the intersection of science, technology, and society. The journal publishes informed and rigorous work that takes risks, insightfully challenges established conceptual orientations and methods, and speaks boldly.
