Reorganization Committee report, 2021

Membership: Joan Fujimura (co-Chair), Emma Kowal (co-Chair), Pablo Kreimer, Duygu Ka?do?an, María Belén Albornoz, Amanda Windle (until July 2021)

The ad hoc committee was formed by Joan Fujimura to review the governance structures of 4S and make recommendations to Council (see Appendix A, Reorganization Committee Charge). The committee presented a proposal to Council in May 2021 to release an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Managing Director position in order to assess interest in the position and inform whether the position was offered as a contract, a partnership with a university or other institution, or some other arrangement. The EOI was endorsed by Council and was opened from May – August. Note that Amanda Windle was originally a member of this committee. However, when she indicated she was planning to submit an EOI she immediately resigned from the Reorganization Committee and absented herself from any discussion of the MD proposal on Council due to a Conflict of Interest.

At the May meeting, a Council member requested that a Transition plan be presented to Council to provide an overview of governance changes that had been discussed in Council over the year. This was prepared by the Reorganization Committee and presented to Council for discussion in July. Council indicated they would like a proposal for the MD position to be presented to the September meeting. This was prepared by the Reorganization Committee and endorsed by Council in September.
