Technological theory for all: Teaching experiments on STS in Chile

Between 2013 and 2017 at the University of Chile, we have been creating a set of teaching experiences, based on active learning about social studies of technology. In this context, we have created five teaching experiences for different audiences. These fans integrate diverse skills and today are a consistent offer for high-school students, university students, teacher improvement and the general public, where it allows to be introduced to the concepts of technology and society Developed in the last 50 years since STS. The final objective is to establish educational infrastructures capable of enriching with technology perspectives at all educational levels in a transversal way. The experiences are extension courses (Summer and Winter) on Innovation, Technology, and Society; A regular course on technological theory, of an interdisciplinary nature; A two-week course for teachers; An MOOC in Spanish on the Coursera platform and a workshop for decision-makers and journalists. More than 5000 people have been part of these learning experiences, in an original and innovative institutional and disciplinary assembly for the region. These experiences of active teaching come together as a base element for technology and social learning network that has been involved with the innovation ecosystem as well as with formal and non-formal school technology education. This experience is a systemic and experimental approach to the STS studies can be transmitted to different educational levels, highlighting their importance, value, and contiguity for contemporary society. In this stand will be presented the systemic model, the built institutional network, some products and active strategies used in this five-year experience, as well as their qualitative and quantitative results as for how STS is understood from/in the south.
